UY Scuti is a red hypergiant star in the constellation Scutum. With a radius of 909 Solar Radii, it is one of the largest known stars and one of the most historically important stars ever. It was first known as BD-12°5055 when it was first cataloged in 1860. In 2012, it was found that the star had a radius of over 1,708 Solar Radii, making it the largest star at the time. Later estimates place it at a smaller size, but it’s still freakishly big.
